Site of the Month #003: The Restaurant Trapped in a PDF
This month: a restaurant — a composite of three real Chicagoland spots I audited, blended so nobody's on blast. All three shared the same money leak, which is why it earns the slot.
What it does right
The food photography is legitimately great, and the place is clearly loved — the reviews prove it. The website just puts a wall between that love and a table.
Leak #1: the PDF menu
Tap "Menu," download a file, pinch-zoom a document designed for print. On a phone — where nearly every diner is — that's three chances to give up before seeing a single dish. Fix: a real menu page, sections and prices as text, readable one-handed on the bus. (Bonus: Google can read it too — PDFs rank for nothing.)
Leak #2: no path to order
They take orders by phone and through a delivery app — but the site mentions neither. Fix: an ORDER button in the header wired to whatever you already use. Zero new systems, one button, measurable revenue.
Leak #3: hours roulette
Site says one thing, Google says another, the door says a third. Fix: one source of truth, synced — looking closed is the most expensive look in hospitality.
